Since 2024, Victoria has been steadily moving new builds away from gas connections. But if a gas stovetop or gas heating is still part of your vision for home, it’s not too late! Get familiar with the updated electrification rules outlined in Victoria’s Gas Substitution Roadmap and decide whether an electric or gas home is right for you.
This blog will cover everything you need to know about the transition away from gas, what it means for new homeowners and how you can still secure a gas connection at Riverfield before time runs out.
The shift towards all-electric homes
The Victorian Government introduced a policy that changed the regulations for new builds. Planning permits for new dwellings, apartments and residential subdivisions can no longer include a connection to reticulated (mains) gas – it’s part of the state’s wider plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Existing homes with gas connections aren’t affected, but moving forward, it’s the planning permit date that determines whether a new release can include a gas connection or not.
A rare opportunity at Riverfield
If a gas-supplied home is still in your future plans, you’re in luck! Riverfield has a limited number of lots available that can be purchased and connected to a gas line. But just a heads up, you’ll need to comply with connection obligations before 1st of January 2027. Your gas connection can still be completed after this date, so long as your building permit is in place beforehand*.
Gas has been provided to lots in Stages 28, 30, 34, 35 & 36. All lots following these Stages will be all-electric without the option of reticulated gas. If your dream home for you and your family involves gas appliances and amenities, this is the last chance to secure a gas-connected lot in our established and fast-growing community.
